Polydoors unique range of impact door products has proven a huge success within the supermarket industry. With many leading supermarkets already agreeing to install their own specific designed Polydoor in their stores, the Polydoor is living up to all the hype.

The solid PE panel has been tested in the toughest environments and the Polydoor has exceeded all. The solid structure of the door ensures the door looks as good after 12 months as it did the day it was installed.

The extremely durable door structure is accompanied by a soft finger protection closing edge to ensure the door is ideal for use in areas where both pedestrian and motorised traffic are present.

One leading supermarket has already committed to using the HDPE doors within their toilet areas. Their decision to do this is based on the combination of HDPE and stainless steel used to manufacture the doors. Both materials offer excellent hygienic values and therefore are ideal for areas where hygiene is essential.

A common question asked by many customers is the benefits of using impact doors. Quite simply put if you are moving any goods from one area to another then an impact door will provide a solution to make your environment safer, more secure, and more energy efficient.

It is likely that many facilities operate without the correct doors in place due to a number of reasons, more commonly is the fact that the premises was originally designed around another industry. In these environments it is usual to find doors ranging from electronic sliding doors through to double fire rated timber doors, all serving as a portal from one area to another.

Either way, applications that do not use impact doors usually lead to whatever doors being left open. This is usually to save on the laborious job of opening the door in a strange but effective way to aid getting through the door with either a loaded trolley or stacked goods of some kind.

Impact doors are used and specified on a large range of projects and indeed serve a valuable purpose. The Speedflex Polydoor range of impact doors are manufactured using specially formulated materials and the highest quality components to offer the easiest solution to overcome such problems. The benefits of using this type of product includes:

Improved Privacy & Security
Maintaining a closed doorway can improve privacy & security by restricting visibility into a particular opening or area.

Increased Productivity
Manufactured to easily open with little force, each impact door allows both personnel and goods vehicles to pass through each opening with very little effort. Designed to open and close with little intervention to allow personnel to carry on with their duties and help increase productivity.

Dust Control
Using the standard automatic return system (hold open is optional) ensures each door is closed after each through pass. This type of operation proves key in helping to contain any type of dust from passing from one area to another.

Vermin Control
An unfortunate fact is that many premises are forced to undertake some form of pest control. By utilising a door that is automatically closed after every operation, the possibility of vermin being able to pass freely from area to area is greatly reduced.

Improved Working Environment
Whatever the reason, impact doors can help provide a more productive environment whilst also improving the working conditions for personnel.

Reduced Heat Loss
Open doorways are one of the main reasons behind heat loss in commercial and industrial applications. Manufactured to automatically close helps reduce unwanted energy loss.

Environmental Benefits
Unlike glass reinforced plastics (GRP), the Polydoor is the only impact door which can be 100% fully recycled. The RSR Series is also the first impact door in Europe to be manufactured from 100% recycled materials, this series offers the maximum amount of environmental benefits not available from any other impact or traffic door on the market.

In addition to these benefits the Polydoor range of products eliminates an ages old problem of premature wear. In the past and due to the nature of the application many other types of impact doors require frequent replacement. The Polydoor is designed to overcome this type of problem by incorporating high density construction and the use of a patented over engineered design.

Recycled Or Recyclable?

This is a statement common among many environmental opportunists. The true question I suppose is which is more important.

Overseeing the difference between these 2 phrases can be of great importance, as an example the energy used to recycle a product can be greatly off-set against any un-recycled variant. This is of major relevance to companies that rely on some form of environmental off-setting. Energy off-setting is common within industries that rely heavily on large amounts of energy to carry out day to day operations or whereby the organisation utilises older less environmentally friendly processes or materials. For these types of organisations it is important to get the balance correct and to ensure energy positives are among the objectives achieved when sourcing both materials and products.

The Polydoor ranges of products are not only fully recyclable but also available fully recycled. This is a huge breakthrough within our industry and makes Polydoor the only company to offer both fully recycled and fully recyclable doors within our industry. Additionally, taking advantage of our unique recycling procedures allows us to make further steps in achieving sustainable states on many of our other products, this ensures products can be manufactured from either sustained materials or from fully recyclable PE products or waste materials.

Being proud of our environmental achievements has driven Polydoor to make steady progress in leading the way PE doors are developed, manufactured, sustained and recycled. It is this approach that has seen us become the only PE Company that can recycle waste material within just 48 hours by partnering some of Europe’s leading re-processing companies.

How many times have you heard the words, ‘Environmentally Friendly’? Unfortunately the term is loosely used in almost every aspect of our commercial lives. This type of ignorance is having a detrimental impact on how we view the level of importance of such a fundamental approach to ensuring our planets sustainable future.

Many of the markets in which we operate are laden with companies stating how their products will help the environment. In fact many of these products do not offer any environmental advantages. Some of the key failures usually include poor materials selection and inefficient manufacturing processes. Both of these key factors are equally important as offsetting the energy used to manufacture either combined materials or the product itself is vitally important in calculating the carbon required for each product.

A recent study was undertaken on the Polydoor range of recyclable impact doors offered by Speedflex in comparison to GRP and reinforced PVC style crash doors. The study revealed how the poor materials selection from these other types of materials performed compared to the Polydoor PE series. The findings highlighted the reduced life of these types of materials and also the disposal problems both GRP fibreglass and reinforced R-PVC. Further information on this study is available as an extract to Speedflex unique ‘Back2Work’ policy.

Strangely enough both GRP and R-PVC products are regularly referred to as environmentally friendly whilst in fact studies conclusively show the detrimental impact both these materials have in longevity and disposal compared to more UHMW and HD recyclable materials.

We believe any product classed as environmentally friendly should indeed meet several key criteria’s. Once these criteria’s have been fully satisfied only then should it be classed as a viable environmentally beneficial product.

Speedflex were the first company in the UK to introduce a new class of product approved by the Carbon Trust after demonstrating all the key elements required to satisfy substantial environmental benefits. Similarly the introduction of the Polydoor range of products has seen us propel our company as the only UK manufacturer of fully recyclable PE impact and traffic doors.

We believe by monitoring the importance of our roles in promoting the most energy efficient products will indeed guarantee a sustainable future for our planet and products that truly exceed our customers expectations.

Making The Most Of Modern Materials

“Quietly moving ahead”. That’s something everyone at Speedflex is committed in achieving. This mentality is relative to every action we undertake on both a daily and long term basis. This approach is evident in not only the products we manufacture but also in the materials in which we use.

It is vitally important that we utilise the use of modern day materials when designing modern day products for everyday solutions. Our over engineered approach and conservative FOS requires the use of materials which incorporate an identical approach to this.

Speedflex have published a unique document demonstrating how we assess and determine the types of materials that compliment our products from both a fundamental engineering and an environmental perspective.

The range of Poly products is an example of the success of our strict approach in this field. Each Poly product utilises only fully recyclable materials and is engineered in such a way to ensure each product is recycled at the end of it’s life. This approach has led Speedflex to becoming the first PE door manufacturer in Europe in achieving such a milestone. This approach also led to Speedflex being nominated for the 2010 National Recycling Awards.

Our continued efforts in this field will continue to bring further developments in the way our products are engineered to ensure a more sustainable and environmentally future.
