When one of the worlds leading logistical companies contacted us regarding their on-going project within the British Library, we were very intrigued to see why they needed the help of an industrial door company in such a specialist environment.
They required a solution so that they can transfer valuable books on a conveyor system to the desired location of storage. These doors needed to assist with the air pressures and temperatures present in order to preserve the books in their current condition.
We met with their logistical engineers to advise on ways to create the working system required. We offered to install several conveyor high speed doors and specifically position them so that it creates an interlock system. This system ensures that the variation in temperatures is limited as only one door is open at one time restricting the amount of temperature transfer through the openings.
It was recommended that the interlock system be programmed directly to the PLC so that they had full control over the doors at all times. This also meant that it could be easily programmed so that only one door was in operation at any one time.
With all engineers fully agreeing that this was the ideal solution Speedflex were instructed to undertake the work as soon as possible. We set about manufacturing these exclusive doors so that they could fit within the limited space available. Step by step each door was connected directly to the PLC and tested thoroughly on completion.
Speedflex high speed doors now work in conjunction with the conveyor and PLC to create the perfect transportation between the desired areas. Both the logistical company and the British Library have complimented Speedflex on the excellent product and service provided. They both went on to say that they would have no problem in recommending Speedflex to any company thinking of purchasing high speed doors.
The installation of these doors within the library has helped preserve some of the worlds most valuable and historical books.
