Heathrow Airport Solution

Speedflex were contacted by a top London architect who stated his client had a requirement for 8 fast acting doors. The purpose of these doors was to form 4 interlock systems within their new high security screening unit.

Each door had to be programmed so that only one door was open in each section at any time. It was also specified that the doors needed to open automatically when the fire alarms were triggered.

Speedflex proposed 8 high speed doors, 4 external and 4 internal. We offered to install the interlock system and connect it directly to the fire system so that in case if emergency the alarm would ring and the doors would automatically open.

Traffic lights were installed on each bay so that the staff were fully aware of when they could and could not operate the doors.

Due to the high security required within this area it was agreed that there would be no form of external activation for the doors, all doors were to be activated from an internal point only.

The 8 doors have proved to be very effective and are operating in the exact manner they were intended.

Further to Heathrows total satisfaction with our doors on this project they have decided to build another new screening unit with an estimated 6 new doors required.
