Royal Mail Solution

In the new section of their Edinburgh sorting office the Royal Mail had a requirement for a large door 3m wide and 6m high. This door needed to be suitable for intense use due to the volume of continuous passing traffic.

The overall height of the door was far greater than what was needed but it was pointed out that there may be occasions they need the 6m clear height.

Speedflex proposed a high speed door that was operated by radar. This meant that the door opened when a vehicle came within a specified distance of the door and then was automatically timed to close once it had passed through.

Engineers were instructed on how to modify the limit switches so that the opening height of the door could be changed if required.

The result of this project meant that the Royal Mail had a fast acting door that opened and closed when instructed with the added benefit of a self adjusting height limit.
